Net Neutrality
Protecting American Creativity
The debate concerning government regulation of the Internet, or net neutrality, is of growing concern to the entertainment industry. Specifically we are concerned that discussions so far have overlooked the need to ensure that regulation does not obviate the ability to protect high quality legitimate content on the Internet. In recent years, consumers have seen growth in the number of legitimate online services that make movies and television programming available. The ability to protect this content from illegal downloading and piracy is a key element in giving consumers greater choice. It is imperative that the net neutrality debate not impose regulations that limit or prohibit the ability of content owners, or the service providers from taking steps to protect content on line. Absent the ability to protect content, the fear is that the growth of legitimate services for consumers will be stymied. We fully support the continuing development of a vibrant, legitimate Internet, but the ability to guard against illegal activity must remain available.
